Level 5 Leadership: The Triumph of Humility and Fierce Resolve

Leadership has different styles and methods that have been studied and observed through the years. One of which is the level five leadership that which personal humility and professional will is the identifying factor why certain leader to be categorized as such. These leaders knew right people and strategy and drive his team towards their goal and vision. On this article, there were very few leaders identified whom made their company from good to great despite of the declining stage of their respective company have encountered. They are so humble that they credit to others, external factors or luck on why their company were successful but blamed their selves for the failure. They thought not of their selves but for the company.

Since they are very few, they ensure that their successor can and will sustain the success of their company to lead on their respective industry. They also instill culture of discipline among their team of the discipline on thoughts and actions for greater performances expected from them because they are the leader who would always think the best for the company, its economics and of course its people.

On the other hand, this is applicable in our workplace in a way that what we are doing is not for us but for the benefit of the project, foundation, government and of the people we serve. We may not be the best yet as a catalyst of change in our communities, we always try harder of the best that we can to do better in every endeavor given to us. We think not of ourselves when we are sent on a meeting or community rather we are there to help and capacitate communities and partners.

Leadership level five may be rare yet I really agree that these leaders who possessed these qualities were exemplary. Very often we could see a leader who would think first of the company without subconsciously thinking of the benefit he can get of the time, talent and effort he had invested. Undeniably, all leaders aims to always achieve targets and goals or even beyond for the success of the company to be strategically ahead as compared to its competitors in the industry. They would suggest for the investment to new technology, cost efficiency, continuous improvements, training and seminars to name a few to improve operations. But being level five leaders is beyond that because he would ensure that the success is not just on his time or temporary but continuous and consistent.

In our project, we are all trained to do multi-task but without also neglecting to enhance and excel the natural skill of specialization we possess. We are also encourage to attend seminars, training and continue professional education to be updated with the current theories and practices in the field of our specialization. The top level management always mentoring us of the right discipline of the thought process before starting the outline of the activity we’ll be conducting. They may not be the level five leadership but I believe that they are the best leader who can lead us personally and professionally in their own little way. Still, the decision to change still relies on me if I will follow their guidance and suggestions. It’s a commitment on my part to also lead my respective team with humility and professional will.
