Also called the bar-room plant, it is also known as haran or baran (leaf orchid) in Japanese, and is native to Japan and Taiwan.
This plant is an evergreen rhizome and usually grows to a height of 60 cm tall and wide.
The leaves are glossy dark green, 30-50 cm long and fleshy, and the flowers are 8-leafed cream with a chestnut color inside.
The leaves and roots are easily exposed to deer and hoofed mammals such as rats and rabbits.
The plant is known to survive neglect, hence the common name cast-iron plant.
