Shining spleenwort is an attractive and popular plant widely used for mass plantings in shade.
It has 4-15 pairs of auricles, elongated oblong or ovate with thin lanceolate, pointed, crenate teeth, pointed at the base, and often covered with very small hair-like scales on the underside.
The rhizome is stocky, often forming a spreading mass above ground, crooked, light brown, shiny, ovate, and pointed.
This plant occupies a variety of habitats, from coastal cliffs and rocky mountains to epiphytes and deep forests where it may grow on the ground.
