Camphor tree whose botanical name is cinnamomum camphora, is a large, evergreen tree with a rounded canopy. The branches are wide and large in diameter, very strong, and can reach a height of 70 feet.

This tree is almost too large for anywhere except the largest place. It is best used as a shade tree in large gardens or landscapes.

The stems and bark of young branches are bright green, turning red when young, then grayish dark brown. When it rains, the trunk is rough and wet, making it look black.

This tree grows well in full sun to partial shade. It also does well in a variety of soils, but often suffers from minor defects in alkaline soils.
