The fishbone fern, scientifically known as nephrolepis cordifolia, is a fern native to northern Australia and Asia.
In the Hawaiian Islands, it is known as kupukupu, okupukupu or ni'ani'au, and is an indigenous plant there.
The plant goes by many other names, including tuberous sword fern, tuber ladder fern, erect sword fern, narrow sword fern and ladder fern, and herringbone fern.
