Bay laurel, botanical name laurus nobilis, is a large shrub or aromatic evergreen tree with smooth green leaves.
It is also called bay tree, sweet bay, true laurel, Grecian laurel, or simply laurel, and varies in size and can reach heights of 7 to 18 meters.
The bay laurel is a relic of the former evergreen forests that covered much of the Mediterranean coast, when the climate in this region was more humid.
