It is also commonly known as large periwinkle, greater periwinkle and blue periwinkle, and is native to the western Mediterranean.
This plant is a vine, spreading along the soil and rooting along its stem to form a dense clump of ground cover.
The leaves are opposite, glossy, dark green and leathery in texture, and the base of the stem is nearly rounded with a lance-shaped apex.
