The African lily with the scientific name agapanthus africanus is a flowering plant of the genus agapanthus found from the Cape Peninsula to Swellendam.
Its natural habitat is on the rocky sandstone slopes of fynbos with winter rainfall.
It is a 25-70 cm long evergreen rhizome green geological plant.
The flowers are funnel-shaped, pale to dark blue, with a dark blue stripe running down the center of each petal.
