Alligator juniper, with the scientific name juniperus deppeana, is a small to medium-sized tree reaching 10 to 15 meters in height.
Also called checkerbark juniper, it is native to central and northern Mexico and the southwestern United States.
Leaves are arranged in opposing decapitate pairs or in rings of three. Adults are scale-like.
The leaves are dull gray with clear or yellowish resin spots on each leaf.
