Coffea arabica, also known as Arabian coffee, is a species of flowering plant in the coffee family rubiaceae.

The coffee bean actually contains two beans in one fruit. There may be a third seed, a peaberry growing on the fruit at the end of a branch..

Almost all of gourmet coffee is a variety of high quality Arabica coffee.

It is believed to be the first coffee variety to be cultivated and currently accounts for about 60% of the world's production.

The first records of roasted coffee beans come from Arab scholars.

Other scholars believe that coffee was introduced from Yemen based on pre-Islamic Yemeni traditions.
