Commelina communis, also known as Asiatic dayflower, is a herbaceous annual plant in the dayflower family. It gets its name because the blooms last for only one day. It is native throughout much of East Asia and northern parts of Southeast Asia. In China, the plant is known as yazhicao (鸭跖草; traditional Chinese: 鴨跖草; pinyin: yāzhīcǎo), roughly translating to "duckfoot herb", while in Japan it is known as tsuyukusa (露草, tsuyukusa), meaning "dew herb".

Commelina communis is a small plant, typically growing to a height of 10-20 cm. The leaves are alternate, lanceolate, and up to 5 cm long. The flowers are blue or purple, and are borne in small clusters on the ends of the stems. The flowers open in the morning and close in the afternoon.

Commelina communis is a common weed in many parts of the world. It is considered to be invasive in some areas, such as the United States. The plant can be difficult to control, as it spreads by seed and by rhizomes.

Despite its status as a weed, Commelina communis has some medicinal uses. In traditional Chinese medicine, the plant is used to treat a variety of ailments, including fever, diarrhea, and constipation. The plant is also used in some parts of Africa to treat snakebites.

Commelina communis is a relatively harmless plant. However, it can be mildly toxic if ingested in large quantities. Symptoms of toxicity include vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. If you think you have ingested a toxic amount of Commelina communis, seek medical attention immediately.
