Bear's breeches, scientific name acanthus mollis, is a species of plant in the acanthaceae family.

Also known as sea dock, bear's foot plant, sea holly, gator plant or oyster plant, it is native to the Mediterranean region.

The plant is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial with nodular roots, a rosette of relatively large leafy or toothed leaves, and purplish white flowers on erect spikes.

Bear's breeches have a basic rosette of dark glossy green, leafy or divided, glossy leaves on petioles.

Its Latin name "mollis" means "soft and smooth" and refers to the texture of the leaves.
