Bigleaf periwinkle, also known as large periwinkle, greater periwinkle and blue periwinkle, has the scientific name vinca major. It is a species of flowering plant in the apocynaceae family, native to the western Mediterranean.

This plant grows on vines, spreading along the ground and rooting along the trunk. In this way it forms a clump that covers the soil surface tightly.

Bigleaf periwinkle is usually used in temperate gardens as an ornamental for its evergreen foliage, or as a spring flower, and as a ground cover plant or vine.

The genus name vinca is probably derived from the Latin word vincire. This means to combine because the plants have long vines that are used to make bouquets.
