Camphor laurel, scientific name camphor officinalum, is a species of evergreen tree that is also called camphor tree or camphorwood.

It is native to China south of the Yangtze River, Taiwan, southern Japan, Korea, India, and Vietnam.

Its leaves have a waxy sheen and smell of mothballs when crushed.

For centuries, camphor has been used as a spice in cooking, as an ingredient in incense, and as a medicine.
