Cast iron plant, scientific name aspidistra elatior, is a species of flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae.
Also called bar room plant, it is called haran or baran in Japanese and comes from Japan and Taiwan.
This plant is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant and can also be grown outdoors in the shade of a warm climate.
It is a green perennial rhizome that can grow up to 60 cm height, with shiny dark green fleshy leaves 30-50 cm long.
