Also known as loropetalum and strap flower, it is native to China, Japan, and Korea.
The leaves are alternate, slightly rough, 2.5 to 5 cm long and 2.5 cm wide.
The color varies from bronze-red when freshly grown to olive green or burgundy when mature.
