Chinese violet cress whose Botanical name is orychophragmus violaceus, is a perennial herb in the brassicaceae family.
It originates from China and is widely found in the eastern part of the country and is commonly found in northeastern and northern China.
The main leaves are kidney-shaped when they first germinate from seed and eventually become leafy when the flower buds differentiate during the cold season.
The rhizome and lower stem leaves are pinnate and deeply lobed, heart-shaped at the base, with blunt serrations at the margins.
