Cowbane, with the scientific name oxypolis rigidior, is a species of flowering plant in the carrot family. It is also known as common water dropwort, stiff cowbane, or pig-potato and native to eastern North America.

The tree is a 2–6 foot tall herbaceous perennial wildflower found in moist habitats.

Cowbane is toxic to mammals; with the roots and tops are equally toxic.

The leaves are compound and, oddly enough, pinnate with 7-11 blades, making identification a little more difficult due to the different shapes.
