Creeping cedar, whose botanical name is juniperus horizontalis, is a low-growing shrubby juniper.

Also called creeping juniper, it is native to northern North America, most of Canada from the eastern Yukon to Newfoundland, and parts of the northern United States.

As its name suggests, this cedar is about 10 to 30 centimeters tall, but often spreads several meters.

The leaves grow in pairs, and the mature leaf blades are scale-like.
