Giant cane, scientific name arundinaria gigantea, is a type of bamboo also known as river cane.
As a type of cane, this bamboo is a perennial plant with hollow round stems that can reach 7 cm in diameter and grow up to 10 m in height.
These cane communities are found in floodplains, swamps, riparian forests, barren pines and savannas, and pocosins.
These and other arundinaria species may grow in large monotypic colonies known as canebrakes.
