Greenbriar cat, botanically named smilax glauca, is a woody vine in the smilacaceae family.

Also called catbriar, it is native to the central and eastern United States and is a common and prominent part of the forest vegetation.

The leaves are simple. That is, one leaf per node dies in winter.

It is usually found in wooded areas and hedgerows, often growing along with other species of smilax.
