Heavenly bamboo, scientific name nandina domestica, is a species of flowering plant in the family berberidaceae.
It is also commonly known as nandina, or sacred bamboo, and grows wild in East Asia from the Himalayas to Japan.
It is widely cultivated in gardens as an ornamental because many varieties show bright red autumn leaves.
The genus name "nandina" is derived from the Japanese word nanten.
