Holly is a species of flowering plant in the family aquifoliaceae, and its scientific name is ilex aquifolium.
It is also known as English holly, European holly, and sometimes Christmas holly, and is native to western and southern Europe, northwestern Africa, and southwestern Asia.
Today, holly is found in the thickets of oak and beech forests of western Asia and Europe. And sometimes it forms dense bushes that are dominant.
After the first frost, the holly berries become soft and fall to the ground. This then becomes food for the winter birds that are short of food.
