Japanese beech with scientific name fagus crenata, is a deciduous tree of the genus fagus of the family fagaceae.
It is also known as Siebold's beech, or buna, and is endemic to Japan and widely distributed in Japan's deciduous forests.
The leaves are simple and alternate along the branches, with 7 to 11 pairs of veins and a broad base.
Young leaves and seeds are edible.
