The Japanese photinia, whose botanical name is photinia glabra, is a large evergreen shrub or small tree that grows up to 20 feet tall.

The leaves are glossy, dark green, alternate, coral, oval-ovate, with 8 to 14 pairs of lateral veins.

New leaves are iridescent reddish bronze with reddish buds visible year round.
