The kuwanoha-enoki (Japanese name) (literally mulberry-leaved hackberry), scientific name celtis boninensis, is a deciduous tree of the hemp family cannabaceae, native to Japan.
It reaches a height of 5 to 15 meters, and its young branches are densely covered or dotted with short brown hairs.
The tree is usually found in lowland to mountainous areas in light forests, forest margins, and limestone areas.
The leaflets are alternate, the leaf blade is ovate with a pointed tip and a wedge-shaped to circular base with shallow serrations on the upper margin.
