Lowland Ribbonwood, with the scientific name plagianthus regius, is a tree endemic to New Zealand.

Young trees have densely intertwined branches and small leaves. Older trees tend to have larger leaves, though. Sometimes the top and bottom of the tree will also display different leaves.

Ribbonwood also produces numerous small white or green flowers that appear in dense clusters in the spring.

One of the unique features of this tree is its habit of shedding its leaves, which is rare in New Zealand.

It is considered the largest deciduous tree in New Zealand, growing up to 17 meters and growing in the north, south and Stewart Island.
