Ninebark, scientifically known as physocarpus opulifolius, is a species of flowering plant in the Rosaceae family native to eastern North America.
Also known as common ninebark, eastern ninebark, or Atlantic ninebark, it is a mounded deciduous shrub with simple alternate leaves on curved stems.
The leaves have palmate veins and are 3 to 12 cm long.
Its name comes from its bark, which resembles the shape of the number 9 when peeled thinly, revealing the inner brown bark.
