Purple woodsorrel, scientific name oxalis purpurea, is a species of flowering plant in the oxalidaceae family.
This plant is native to southern Africa, including South Africa, but has spread to most continents.
The leaves are dark green and composed of three hairy leaflets of various shapes.
These leaves become streaked, brown and speckled as they dry.
A single flower appears on a stalk-like stem and has five petals that can exceed 2 cm in length.
