Red clover, whose botanical name is trifolium pratense, is a herbaceous species of flowering plant in the fabaceae family.

It is native to Europe, western Asia, and northwestern Africa, but is cultivated and naturalized in many other regions.

It is an herbaceous, short-lived annual plant that varies in size, usually growing to a height of 20 to 80 cm.

The leaves are alternate, trifoliate (with three leaflets), green with a characteristic pale crescent on the outer half of the leaf and two basal stems that suddenly narrow into feather-like points.

Red clover flowers and leaves are edible and are often added as a garnish to any dish.
