Red Dead-nettle (Lamium Purpureum)

The red dead-nettle, whose botanical name is lamium purpureum, is an annual herbaceous flowering plant that is native to Europe and Asia.

Also called purple dead-nettle or purple archangel, it grows on square stems, usually 5 to 20 cm tall.

The leaves are shady and cottony with wavy to jagged edges. Color ranges from green at the bottom to purple at the top. Petioles 2-4 cm long and 1-2 cm wide.

The tops and leaves of young plants can be eaten, used in salads, or stir-fried as a spring vegetable.
