Red ivy, whose botanical name is strobilanthes alternata, is a member of the acanthaceae family and comes from the island of Java in Indonesia.
It is also known as red flame ivy, or waffle plant, and is synonymous with hemigraphis alternata.
This plant is an herb that usually grows to a length of almost 30 cm.
The leaves are hairy and opposite, dark green on top and light green or purplish underneath.
In Indonesia, this plant is used in traditional medicine, for example, to promote urination, stop dysentery, and treat venereal diseases.
