Sacred bamboo, scientific name nandina domestica, is an evergreen shrub in the family Berberidaceae (barberry).
It is commonly cultivated as an ornamental plant and is known for its beautiful bright red fruits.
The plant grows upright without branching like a cane and can reach a height of six to eight feet.
Newly sprouted sacred bamboo leaves are reddish, like autumn leaves, but change within the plant from season to season and year to year.
