Spiral bightshade with botanical name solanum spirale is a small fruit-bearing shrub in the solanaceae family.
Also called spiral bittersweet, it grows in the paleotropics at medium altitudes (500 to 1,900 m) in southern China, India, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Australia (Queensland).
The tree is widely grown in gardens in India, Thailand, and Laos.
Locals use it for medicine and food. For example, the roots are used as a narcotic and diuretic in Assam, and macerato bark is used as a fever reducer in Laos.
Then, the young leaves as well as the fresh or ripe fruit can be cooked too.
