Tussock sedge, whose botanical name is carex stricta, is a species of sedge that typically grows to 0.61 m tall and 0.61 m wide.
Also known by the common name of upright sedge, it is widely distributed in the eastern Great Plains, one of the most common wetland deposits in eastern North America.
This plant grows in wet marshes, forests, and along bodies of water.
When the leaves die, they pile up on and around living plants to form "tussocks".
