The white mulberry, whose botanical name is morus alba, is a fast-growing small to medium-sized mulberry tree that reaches a height of 10 to 20 meters.

Also called common mulberry or silkworm mulberry, it is native to India, but has long been cultivated and naturalized in many parts of the world.

On strong young shoots, the leaves are deeply lobed and convoluted with rounded lobes. In older trees, the leaves are unlobed, heart-shaped at the base, pointed and rounded at the tip, with serrated edges.

A large white mulberry tree is said to had been in the home of Liu Bei in the 14th century Chinese historical novel Romance of The Three Kingdoms.
