Wild cherry, scientific name prunus avium, is a species of flowering cherry in the rosaceae family.
Also known as the sweet cherry, gean, or bird cherry, it is native to Europe, Anatolia, the Maghreb, and western Asia, with a few isolated populations in the western Himalayas.
Leaves alternate, simple ovate-acute, glabrous hairless or subglabrous green, variegated smooth underneath.
The leaf margins are serrated and pointed at the tip, and the green or reddish petioles have two to five small red glands.
In the fall, these leaves turn orange, pink, or red before falling off.
