The wild privet, whose botanical name is ligustrum vulgare, is a species of ligustrum native to central and southern Europe, North Africa and southwest Asia.
It is also known as common privet or European privet.
In warmer parts of the world, the plants tend to be completely green.
In the British Isles, the wild privet is the only native privet and is common as hedges and woodland in southern England and Wales, especially in limestone areas.
