Zigzag goldenrod, scientific name solidago flexicaulis, is a species of herbaceous perennial plant in North America. It is also known as broadleaf goldenrod and is a member of the sunflower family (asteraceae).
The plant is called "zigzag goldenrod" because its stems are thin and zigzag back and forth, twisting and changing direction at each node (leaf attachment point).
The plant sometimes produces up to 250 small yellow flower heads, some at the tip of the stem and some in the axils of the leaves.
It may grow in a variety of habitats, including mesic upland forests, well drained floodplain forests, seepage swamp hummocks, and rocky woodlands.
