Working as a bouncer is a pretty good gig for people who need a low-key job. It doesn't take up too much time, the shifts are at night so you can still work on stuff during the daytime, and the pay is pretty good at least if you work at the right place.
On the other hand, you do have to deal with drunk and occasionally violent people. Now you are the person who has to run TOWARDS the bullshit, instead of getting away from it. This requires some courage or at least stress tolerance.
In this video I talk through the pros and cons of being a bouncer. This will be useful for you if you are in the music industry, even if you have no interest in doing this job -- if you know the bouncer's perspective, you can avoid pissing off the wrong people when you are on tour and stuff. After all the bouncer is often the same person who you are trying to convince to add ten people to your guest list at that random show in Kansas or whatever.

Indeed! The job has given me a lot of respect for people who really do security - like when we call the police (very rare) and they have to show up, it makes me realize the easiest stuff they deal with is probably the worst stuff I deal with.

You and me both, this gig has given me a more negative feeling about alcohol than I used to have. Kinda weird to see the sloppy drunks weekend after weekend. Of course lots of great people too, we have a ton of cool regulars at the bar.
