Word : Rambunctious

in learning •  7 years ago

Based on a suggestion, and also in part because of the realization that it would be sooo much better for me to learn new words and better my English that has forgotten what an upgrade even is ever since I passed the seventh grade.

And the dearth of content isn't going down well with my now almost obsessive need to keep writing. I really think I'm reacting to it the same way I react to hunger. Eat, eat, eat. Write, write, write!

Oh well.

So whenever I can manage, I'm going to share my newfound knowledge with everybody here. It'll be just one word at a time, though. Largely because I don't want to overwhelm you (read, myself). If I could see you right now, I'd charge you for this service that I've resolved to provide.

Today's word : rambunctious

EBN(Explanation But Not-really) : It apparently means 'boisterousness.' That quality of being active and noisy and out of control. It was tough for me to even pronounce at first. I've got what you'd call a fat tongue, somebody once told me it was so because I ate so much. So while I was sitting there trying to command my tongue to twist in the specific order that would let some hopefully sophisticated version of 'rambunctious' out, my understandably wandering mind brought to my attention where I'd seen the word in the first place. Some guy had just casually thrown it in alongside a string of other words in a comment section on Facebook, of all places! I mean, my little brain sometimes loses it's way trying to remember the right spelling of 'receive', I can't even imagine what it would be like to go around dropping grenades like 'rambunctious' , thank you very much. Why, I even checked to see if it was Shakespeare commenting on fb from beyond his grave! (No, it wasn't. Not unless Shakespeare goes by Greg Smith on FB.)

And oh oh oh! Listen to this new idea that I just got. What if when I learn word1 in a post, and then use word1+word2 in the next one, and word1+word2+word3 in the next, and so on.

I find myself constantly awed and humbled by these little tricks of mine to make things needlessly complicated. Do you as well?
