God of Storm

In Japan, Susano'o is known as the god of storms and also the god of the oceans. Susano'o is taught in Shinto religion in Japan.

Usually, the gods in the mythology of the world are known as the ruler of the weather or certain conditions, such as the god of lightning, the god of the wind, and other gods. So it is with Susanoo who is the god of storms and oceans.

Three Brothers Born from Izanagi

Apparently, Susanoo does not live alone, because Susanoo is part of three brothers. Besides Susanoo who is a lightning god, there are also two other brothers.

His brother, or rather his first sister is Amaterasu, he is a Sun goddess. Next there is Tsukuyomi, the god of the Moon.

The three names seem very identical to the anime and manga series Naruto, yes. Incidentally all three are in the anime and manga.

In the legend Susanoo in Japan, of course Susanoo does not appear just like that. He was born of another god, that is Izanagi. Uniquely, the birth process is not as you imagine (know it, his name is also a god).

Susanoo was born with Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi when Izanagi was cleaning or rinsing his face when exposed to dirt from Yomi.

While rinsing his own face, Amaterasu the goddess of the Sun was born from her left eye, Tsukuyomi the Moon god born from her right eye, while the storm god Susanoo was born from Izanagi's nose.

By the way, Izanagi is a male deity, and has a wife that is Izanami. Again a name that is very familiar with the serial Naruto especially the Uchiha family, yes.

Susanoo's Story

Before being famous as a deity in Shinto religious teachings, the legend of Susanoo in Japan starts here.

Previously, Susanoo along with his siblings lived in Heaven. One day, Izanagi, her father orders Susanoo to go to Earth.

Feeling heavy, but it is a task and command, finally Susanoo agreed with the request of his parents. Before leaving, he met his sister first, Amaterasu the goddess of the Sun to say goodbye.

Here, not a good separation does not happen, because from this separation, the long problem between Susanoo and Amaterasu begins.

Before separation, the two held a race or a challenge. They must give birth to gods or goddesses of their opponents' possessions. Here, Susanoo uses Amaterasu's necklace, while Amaterasu uses the sword of Susanoo. The sword is not given a clear name, but it is thought to be the sword of Totsuka no Tsurugi.

From the sword of Susanoo, Amaterasu gave birth to three goddesses from Munakata, while Amaterasu's necklace gave birth to five gods from its necklace. Seeing the number of gods or goddesses born more than his stuff, then Amaterasu came out as the winner.

Do not accept the defeat, Susanoo angry and destroy Amaterasu's rice fields. Not only that, Susanoo also killed one of Amaterasu's followers. After that, Amaterasu runs and hides in the cave of Ama no Iwato, and makes the sun's rays disappear. Since then, the Sun does not shine anymore.

The fate of Susanoo

After making a mess, of course the storm god that is Susanoo should receive punishment. Amaterasu fears and hides in Ama no Iwato. As a result, the sun's rays do not shine on Earth for some time.

Fortunately, Amaterasu still wants to get out of hiding, but with certain tricks. Surely Amaterasu did not come out by itself, but with the help of the inhabitants of Earth, who held a special ceremony complete with dances.

The problem of the Sun can be overcome, then what about Susanoo? He gets punished for this incident. Susanoo was sent to a village in Izumo province.

Here, he meets an elderly old couple, a grandfather and a grandmother. Both of them look sad. Susanoo finally came over and asked what happened.

Apparently they are gods of the Earth, and explain that they have eight children. However, his first to seventh child was taken and dumped by the eight-headed dragon, Yamata no Orochi. Right now, their eighth son wants to be bumbled, but they want the eighth child to survive. The child is Kushinadahime.

Susanoo said, if he can help Kushinadahime, then let Susanoo take Kushinada's daughter, and both grandparents had agreed.

Kushinada's daughter was converted into a comb, and was declared in Susanoo's hair. After that, Susanoo finds a way to defeat Yamata no Orochi. She uses 8 bottles of sake in this plan.

A giant eight-headed dragon, Yamata no Orochi appeared. Here, Susanoo lured him with the sake, and made Yamata no Orochi drunk. Opportunity for Susanoo to attack him.

Susanoo divides Yamata no Orochi, from head to tail using Totsuka no Tsurugi sword. In the piece that reaches the tail, he finds another sword, and this sword is named Kusanagi no Tsurugi.

After his fight against Yamata no Orochi finished, Susanoo marries Kushinada's daughter, and marries her. Meanwhile, Kusanagi no Tsurugi's sword he gave to Amaterasu as an apology.

Amaterasu accepts it, then passes it on to his own grandson, Ninigi. The object that Amaterasu inherited is not only the sword of Kusanagi no Tsurugi, but there is also a mirror Yata no Kagami and Yasakani no Magatama jewelry. Later, these three objects into the legacy of the Japanese kingdom, and dubbed three historic treasures of Japan.

That's the legend of Susanoo in Japan. Much is similar to some of the features in the Naruto anime and manga series, yes. What do you think? Likes with the powerful god Susanoo storm? Write your opinion in the comments field and share it with your friends, yes.
