Last Christmas I helped my friend illuminate his modded LEGO Ewok Village with some LEDs cleverly hidden inside torches and fireplaces
The tricky part was really just getting those tiny fairy light LEDs trimmed to fit into the lego part (64644) that makes the center part of the torches. The bottom stick-part (30374) of the torch was replaced with a trimmed piece of the lego "hose" to allow the LED's leads to run through and come out at the hinge part (30553) of the torch.
I used these kinds of fairy lights, you'll probably find them at your nearest dollar store or home decoration outlet. It's the kind that has tiny SMD-LEDs epoxied directly onto thin enamelled wire.
I used super thin enamelled copper wire to hook up the LEDs. The wire is thin enough to actually slide it into the space between 2 LEGO bricks. I had to use multiple strands of the wire for each LED lead to allow enough current for the LEDs, though.
You can kind of see this with the torch in the bottom of the next image (see the black wire running up and into the wall).
I am really happy with the effect. The LEGO model looks super awesome with those fires lit.
