My Custom LEGO RACER

in legocreations •  6 years ago  (edited)

Years back I was big into LEGO products. It all began when I entered a LEGO Smart Creativity Contest. The contest was to show how I used LEGO products in homeschooling. I made a stop motion video that was 2 minutes and 24 seconds long. It took over 40 hours to complete. Making sets, posing mini-figures, taking 20 pictures for every second of video, editing, sound, including voices all added up in time.

Long story shortened, I received a call from LEGO and won an all expenses paid trip to St. Louis, Missouri + $2500 in LEGO products.

After the contest, I ventured out more, into the LEGO World and did some sculpture. One of the biggest sculptures that I made was a life-sized 1879 fire Hydrant that that took 7,500 pieces to complete. It was not a kit but was something I had to purchase each piece for and freehand build with no pattern.

Here is a link to a 54-second video I made of the Fire Hydrant with my daughter, who was 11 at the time.

I published a book on how to do stop motion, 60 pages and made some other books about LEGO that were never published.

I thought I would share one of the LEGO books here. There are mostly pictures with a little explanation. If you have children or know someone that does OR if you just enjoy whimsical stuff you may enjoy this book.

The book was called BRICK BY BRICK MY CUSTOM DOWNHILL RACER

Hello, my name is Max Lego. Some call me “Mad Max” because of the way I build and modify extreme vehicles. I was building at a very young age and my parents bought me LEGO bricks to encourage me. For Every Birthday and holiday I would ask for one thing….MORE LEGO bricks to build with. When I became a teenager I got a job (building of course) and saved all my money to buy more bricks to build with. I became a fanatic of all things LEGO.

I began entering and winning contests and got the attention of a talent scout. The scout met with me and asked me to build extreme machines for his company. The name of the company is TOP SECRET so I can’t mention it here but I did travel all over the world and build many amazing machines. The job was fun and I still help out from time to time but I also do freelance work for companies and individuals.
An individual or company will call and give me specifications about what they want their custom creation to look like. I will make detailed notes of exactly what is required.

After I have all the information I need I will go to my dry erase board, make sketches, brainstorm, list materials that will be needed and show what type of technology will be used.

Sometimes people will give me a general idea of what they want. The call will go something like this: “Mad Max, your creations are so cool! Will you build a car for me t drive to work? I want it fast, red and to have 2 seats. Use your imagination. I know that I will love whatever you come up with”.

There are other times that a caller will be very specific and say “Max, I need a vehicle to be 3” wide, able to go in the water, be no more than 2 inches high and have a hitch for towing. Oh, and it needs to be a specific shade f Olive Green. I want to review every step before you start building”.

The following section is about my recent X1R project. X1R stands for an experimental, first-generation racer.
I used some of the latest technology building. It is super fast and will soon be racing on an across America Race Spectacular.

The race starts in Asheville, NC and ends in Anaheim, California. Hundreds of racers will enter but only one will take home the championship trophy.

My team and I are very excited about being invited to build and enter a race car to compete. I won’t keep you waiting any longer. Without further adieu allow me to introduce you to the one, the only X1R.

that track is like the tracks that we used to use for our pine derby racers hehehehe brings back memories - gosh :)

this is FANTASTIC!
Deserves a @curie for sure!!!!!

Thank you Thank You!! LEGO was an important part of our lives and there are many special memories attached (many cryable memories). It was a pinewood derby track. I built the cool racecar and got there to realize the track was too narrow and had to alter the car to fit between the grooves.

The mention even of @curie is an honor and I thank you for it!!

if you can build on the fly - that means youre a true Lego Master Builder hehehehehe

LOL building is fun! not sure about Master lol

LOL at "King of Cool" though I do like the sound of that. Ha

What a great post !!!!

Thank you so much!! I put lots of prayer and time into the contest and it turned out well.

I had never been to St Louis before. It was an adventure. LEGO was so nice as well.

Oh my goodness!!! This is too cool for school- love it! And that fire hydrant!! My other half loves Lego. He wrote a novel where one of the main characters is a Royal Quiet Delux turquoise typewriter and I've always wanted to get him one made out of Lego 😂

Another LEGO fan. He must be a good other half.

A typewriter would be so cool
