Lemon growers said the price was higher this year because of lower yields. Last year 5 pon (5) lemon was Tk. This time it is 200 rupees. Farmers in the village are cultivating lemons with tears. Each of the weeds is 1 to 100 cubits long and 3-5 cubits wide. Up to 22 trees can be planted in each weed. The cost of cultivating lemons at the cost of such a bigha is 3 thousand taka. After harvesting the fruit, lemon is sold for one and a half to two lakh rupees every year. As a result, farmers are earning Tk 1.5 to 2 crore every year by selling lemons.

The dealer of the lemon powder mill said that when a freight trawler came from Patuakhali, the trailer was sent to Patuakhali. The raw materials there are contracted before the seller. It is sold at a profit on the bought price.

Lemon cultivator Manik Majumdar said that the lemon extract and supply of Jalkathi is available in Dhaka, Barisal, Faridpur, Madaripur and other districts of the country. ভিটামিন-সিযুক্ত রসালো লেবুর ঘ্রাণে মাতোয়ারা ঝালকাঠির ২২ গ্রাম। চলতি মৌসুমে জমে উঠেছে ঝালকাঠির ভিমরুলীর ভাসমান লেবুর হাট। প্রতিদিন এখানে লাখ লাখ লেবু কেনা-বেচা হচ্ছে। পাইকাররা নৌকা থেকে লেবু কিনে গাড়িতে করে বরিশাল আড়তে নিয়ে বিক্রি করছে। অনেকে মালবাহী ট্রলার বা ট্রাকের নিয়ে যাচ্ছে দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলায়।
জানা যায়, ঝালকাঠির বাউকাঠি, শতদশকাঠি, ভিমরুলী, কাফুরকাঠি, আটগড়, গাভারামচন্দ্রপুর, পোষন্ডা, ডুমুরিয়া, খেজুরা, কির্ত্তীপাশা, মিরাকাঠিসহ ২২টি গ্রাম এখন লেবুর ঘ্রাণে মাতোয়ারা। প্রতিদিন এসব গ্রামের কৃষকরা গাছ থেকে লেবু সংগ্রহ করে নৌকায় ভিমরুলী বাজারে নিয়ে আসে। অপেক্ষমান পাইকাররা নৌকায় বসেই লেবু কিনে রাখছে।

লেবুচাষিরা জানান, গত বছরের তুলনায় এবার ফলন কম হওয়ায় দাম বেশি। গত বছর ১ পোন (৮০টি) লেবু ছিল দেড়শ’ টাকা। এবার তা ২শ’ টাকা। গ্রামের কৃষকরা কাঁদি কেটে লেবু চাষ করছেন। একেকটি কাঁদি ১শ’ থেকে ১১০ হাত লম্বা এবং ৭-৮ হাত চওড়া হয়। প্রতিটি কাঁদিতে ২২টি গাছ লাগানো যায়। এরকম ১ বিঘার কাঁদিতে লেবু চাষ করতে খরচ হয় ৫০ হাজার টাকা। ফল ধরার পরে প্রতি বছর লেবু বিক্রি করে দেড় থেকে ২ লাখ টাকা পাওয়া যায়। সে হিসেবে লেবু বিক্রি করে প্রতি বছর কৃষকরা আয় করছে দেড় থেকে ২ কোটি টাকা।

লেবুর পাইকার মিলন ব্যাপারী জানান, পটুয়াখালী থেকে মালবাহী ট্রলার এলে সেই ট্রলারে পটুয়াখালী মোকামে পাঠানো হয়। ওখানের কাচামাল বিক্রেতাদের আগেই চুক্তি করা থাকে। কেনা দামের ওপর লাভ রেখে বিক্রি করা হয়।

লেবুচাষি মানিক মজুমদার জানান, ঝালকাঠির এ লেবুর কদর ও সরবরাহ হয় ঢাকা, বরিশাল, ফরিদপুর, মাদারীপুরসহ দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলায়। ফলন ধরার পর দু’ভাবে লেবু বিক্রি করে থাকি। প্রথমত স্থানীয় ভিমরুলী বাজারে পাইকারদের কাছে। এছাড়াও গাছে ফল আসার পর পাইকারদের কাছে বাগান বিক্রি করি এককালীন নগদ টাকায়।
লেবুচাষি সুভাষ, অতুল হালদার জানান, তারা সহজ শর্তে ঋণ পেলে এবং কৃষি বিভাগের সহযোগিতা পেলে লেবু চাষ আরও সম্প্রসারণ করতে পারবে। সহজ শর্তে ঋণের সুফল তাদের ভাগ্যে জোটে না। তাই চড়া সুদে এনজিওর কাছ থেকে ঋণ নিতে হচ্ছে।

ঝালকাঠি কৃষি সম্প্রসারণ অধিদফতরের উপ-পরিচালক মো. ফজলুর রহমান বলেন, ‘এ লেবু ছোট হলেও ভেতরে পর্যাপ্ত রস থাকে। ভিটামিন-সি সমৃদ্ধ লেবুর প্রতি সবারই কম-বেশি আকর্ষণ আছে। লেবুচাষিদের কৃষি বিভাগের পক্ষ থেকে সার্বিক পরামর্শ দেওয়া হয়।’
