These are what we call the "magdarame" They practice this old tradition during the holy week which we call "penitensiya". The photo speaks for itself. These folks are willingly undergoing this physical pain and labor of carrying a cross similar to the passion of Christ.
This one I had to blurr because there is little blood showing from the flagellants I believe that is the term for people who are whipping their own body to bleed.

It is Friday here in the Philippines last day of the traditional practice of Lent. This does not represent everyone in the Philippines but only a few who does this old way of making a self sacrifice by physically laboring and enduring some form of pain to make up for one's sins or whatever. I took a photo of these people who happen to pass by. Just showing you a bit of culture and tradition but I am not promoting or encouraging such practice.
