more value added = more scams
In the crypto space there are things we should know, there are things we know we don't know, and there are things we don't know we don't know...
That made sense right?
Scammers are lurking everywhere all the time!
- The first rule is keep your private keys to yourself.
This can get confusing as there are so many other keys needed to be used for different applications. The main thing you need to remember is to keep your main passwords and seed phrases safe, and private.
- The second rule (when using crypto as currency) is to make sure you're sending crypto to the proper address.
Double check, and then triple check you have the right address!!! This is important, you can lose your funds. If you're buying something of importance, be absolutely sure the person you're doing business with is the same person you mean to do business with.
Just take a look at this screenshot. It looks great, and like it comes from a reputable source. The sender is named Syn City Announcement Bot... Doesn't it sound official and all that?
Even the picture of their profile looks legit! It's not, there's nothing official about this DM. I received it last night, looked at it this morning and when I clicked on the link, there was just under 30 minutes left to MINT a GENESIS PASS!!! It sure smelled fishy... but the FOMO in me was still very curious.
I dug deeper though, and I'm glad I did... I listened to my gut (very important in this space, to know the difference between what your gut is telling you vs your fear of missing out!). And I am glad I did because when I snapped out of it, I realized this:
Like in most Discord I've seen so far, Syn City has a very specific disclaimer in their RULES stating that there will be NO MINTING LINKS - NODMs from SYN CITY - NO DMs from the TEAM
Have a look at the next image! It's wild how people can run scams right under our noses, there's no shame... but worst of all, people will send their hard earned crypto to an address for something they will never receive, because it's simply a scam! Should have read the rules I guess, or followed your gut feeling!
Sad but true, this sort of thing probably happens way too much, but with economic freedom comes responsibility too... and if you can't handle that, maybe you should stay in the world of FIAT. There is much to learn here, and it will never stop, the ecosystems we dabble in are constantly evolving too.
Here's that image I was talking about. It's a snapshot of Syn City's Discord rules:
Well anyhow, I just wanted remind everyone out there to be extra careful... as value of something goes up, so do the numbers of scams. Be vigilant everyone! AND DON'T GET TRAPPED BY YOUR FOMO, IT'S NEVER ENDS WELL, BE PATIENT.
