A question for the LGBT members of Steem, and a request

in lgbt •  6 years ago  (edited)

How do you feel as if you are treated on the platform. In the majority of the internet we are outcasts. This place isn't much of an exception. Trump supporters, ancaps, ancap trump supporters (which is very common lmao), and much anti-lgbt conspiracy of all kinds is everywhere.

Changing social norms to be inclusive is one way this can be changed. A small change that is common is putting pronouns in a persons profile. Getting misgendered can hurt, even online.

This is a very good question. @ancapbarbie is actually ancap (no shit) and supportive of LGBT rights.

I've been treated very kindly here, but the rate of tinfoil wearing asshats is too high for me. I'd rather not put my pronouns on my page. I find it unessacary. Just ask for them. If not, I'll correct you.

why are you bringing up ancapbarbie?

Because she is ancap and a propnent of lgbt rights. You mentioned ancap trump supporters in a post about the treatment of LGBT people. I thought you might want to talk to someone in that demographic that doesn't match up with your views.

im sure one or two nazis supported LGBT too

I'm also pretty sure that my friend isn't a nazi that sees LGBT people as a second class.

I think the nazis were too busy, you know, putting gay men in gas chambers to support LGBT rights at the time.

ancaps are too busy fighting for nestle to keep more child slaves to support workers rights (which includes lgbt rights too)

You ignored my point.

@ancapbarbie can say more on this subject than I can.

You would know. The Nazis being a national socialist party.

I thought so too. Instead they muted me. Their loss.

I can't go in the LGBT tag on Steemit without seeing some "Gay Agenda Degenerates Will Cause Civilization to Crumble" post in Trending or New. Granted, people should be able to freely express their thoughts and Steemit isn't the only place where I've seen this sort of content, but this is the one place where I've seen it to this extent. I guess the nature of Steemit attracts these people, but it gets kind of unnerving after a while.

this place is a market, "free speech" is correlated directly to your stake in the network. If we work together we can have more stake and decrease the visibility of these posts, I am building a party to help do this and to promote good content.

Does this interest you?

Yes, it does.

it sucks to be a transgender lesbian gay or bisexual on steemit. but the haters have higher reps from alike minded people upvoting them when they aught to be disrepute simply for disrespecting community members, discrimination, trolling, hate and fear propaganda and smearing! this is a place for positive factual contributions. not this shit!

The problem is the people cryptocurrency attracts. The majority of people here are "an"caps, which honestly just fascists who say they are lib because the ones in power have absolute "freedom".

I am forming a group to help change this, does that interest you?

Not thanks

Firstly, the vast majority of people on Steemit don't hail from the USA so why bring US politics into the equation ?
Secondly, calling people names as you do is doing exactly the same as the people you're complaining about! Hypocrasy no?
Try being a human and not a label....labels are for groceries.

I think the majority of people in Steemit is supportive towards LGBT+ people, but this may be only an illusion because of the pride month.

Anyway, it is hard to reject all those anti-lgbt people. I try to reason with them, but it hurts and I do not think it is effective. On one hand I think I should keep trying, but on the other hand it is not that easy to keep reading their insults.

reasoning with people alone isn't too effective. A big focus of this new group I have created (lgbt-party) is to help work for change together, does that interest you?

Sure, I have already joined the discord group

Ugh. I just started on this platform and find this post very discouraging. My interest in Steemit is all about finding a good advertising-free social network that I can encourage friends to join, but the flip side of no censorship has ended up being trolls and hate groups in other venues. I guess this is likely going to be no different.

I had written a reply regarding LGBTQ. But after reading the replies I decided to cancel

I can imagine that people want to be treated in a good way and have preferences on how they want to be called and not be called and approached.

Why? Because most people want that.....And so do I.
