Christopher Street Day
What day is this?
The history of the CSD's
This day came about for a rather sad reason. It recalls an uprising against police brutality on Christopher Street in New York. In a bar called Stonewall Inn the so-called Stonewall uprising took place. There were more often violent raids (= systematic search for persons) by the police in pubs with trans- and homosexual target audiences. As more and more defended themselves against these controls this evening, a day-long street battle with the New York police began. Since this event, the Christopher Street Liberation Day procession commemorates this event. The result was an international tradition, which stands for the points mentioned above.[1]
Good to know:
It is also good to know that this tradition is almost only called "Christopher Street Day" in European countries and especially in German-speaking countries. In most countries it is called Gay Pride. Nevertheless, this is the background story why there are these parades at all. 2005 was the largest move in Brazil (Sao Paulo) with about 2.5 million people. Nowadays the CSD is a very colored and shrill event, which exists in almost every big city.
"Please Like me" - Series recommendation
When Josh breaks up with his girlfriend, he realizes that he is gay. His ex-girlfriend and roommate must also help him with his mother, who is suffering from severe depression. Meanwhile, the family has to get used to the new "gay" thing bit by bit. There's a lot to laugh about in this series, thanks to a lot of jokes, but there's at least as much to cry about. The mix is perfect and even someone who has nothing to do with homosexuals can watch this series because the focus is not on it. The focus is much more on the chaotic life between Josh and his friends and the situation with his family. The series has 4 seasons and can be seen on Netflix. I can highly recommend it.
A Gay friendly Country: Malta
Malta is one of the LGBTQ+ friendliest countries in the world.
Homosexual acts are legal there and gay people are also accepted in large parts of society. What is really impressive: these actions are already legal since 1973! In contrast to other countries, this is really early, which of course speaks totally in favour of this country. People in Malta are helpful and open-minded. In the picture above you can see my partner and me. We were in Malta for a week and that was a time in my life when I could live myself out openly without thinking about whether I would be holding hands with him or kiss him in public. We were not stared at or bumped into in a funny way, as is the case in other countries. I felt pretty comfortable there.
I wasn't in the scene, but it is very well represented there. The official "visitMalta" page says:
The gay community will be glad to share tips on the best restaurants, cafes, pubs, nightclubs and boutiques to visit, as well as gay-friendly hotels and other accommodation to stay in.[2]
Malta is a southern European island state in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is quite small with 316km², but has a lot to offer! The official languages are Maltese and English, the currency is Euro. I find the small towns and especially the nature on the island most impressive!
Extra Kuration: Two posts from the community
What I’m Talking About When I Say I’m Asexual
In this post @vaughndemont describes his asexuality and explains pretty well what it's like to live. How he struggles with prejudice and what it means to be asexual. It is quite a good contribution, especially as little is said about this topic.
Lesbian Visibility Day / Día de la Visibilidad Lésbica [ENG/ESP]
Here @spicyshai writes about the "Lesbian Visibility Day". According to her contribution, she hadn't even known that day before. Admittedly, I didn't know about it either. So it is all the more important to write about it. After all, this day is there to give this topic a visibility.
How you could get featured:
Posts under the tag #lgbt will be upvoted, provided that they have quality. Quotes should be indicitated as such and sources of literature and images should be named.
The PRP-LGBT Account
@prp-lgbt is primarily intended to curate and share contributions on all possible LGBT topics. At the moment there are not many LGBT related posts and I want to change that with this account. I want to reward people who deal with this topic and show others that you don't have to hide here on Steemit! Steemit is a wonderful platform and I want to spread even more love! If you want to be part of the team, feel free to write me a DM on Discord!
The picture is self-drawn, so it belongs to me. (@misomaniac) You are welcome to include it in your posts but you must give credit to this account!(@prp-lgbt) The Page Dividers are from @javehimself so if you want to use them it would be nice if you credit him as well.
Thanks for the mention of my essay. :) Upvoted/Resteemed.
