Li-Fi

Light Fidelity is Visible Light Communications(VLC) system running wireless communications traveling at very high speeds. Its a bidirectional ,high speed and fully networked wireless communication technology similar to Wi-Fi. It uses common household LED(Light Emitting Diode) as a optical wireless communication and uses visible spectrum of light for transferring the data up to 224 gigabytes per second.

It accommodates a photo detector to receive light signals and a signal processing element to convert the data into streamable content. The LED bulb is dipped and dimmed up and down at extremely high speeds,without being visible to the human eye. The tiny changes in rapid dimming of lead bulbs is converted into electrical signal by receiver and further the electrical signal is converted into binary data stream that would enable web, video and other multimedia application on Internet enable devices.

Applications of Li-Fi

Li-Fi has the advantage of being useful in electromagnetic sensitive areas such as in aircraft cabins, hospitals and nuclear power plants without causing electromagnetic interferences.
Some of the application are

1. Security

As the light waves can't penetrate through the walls and doors,which makes more secure network as we can control who can connect to your network.

2.** Underwater Applications**

As light can easily pass through the water for a long distance. It can be used as a cable of remotely underwater operated vehicles(ROVs) to transmit and receive commands.

1. Hospital
   

light waves have little effect on medical instruments and human bodies compared to radio waves. We can also transfer patients information in faster speed .

1. Vehicles
   
   We can enhance the safety precaution by the use of Li-Fi technology .Vehicles could communicate with one another via front and back light increasing road safety. Additional information of road situation can also be obtained from the street and traffic light.
